The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued an important update regarding the introduction of One-Year Postgraduate (PG) Programmes through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and/or Online mode in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Under the new framework, students who have successfully completed a Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree with Honours may be eligible to pursue a One-Year Postgraduate Programme, subject to the applicable academic framework and UGC regulations.

According to the UGC communication, Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) that are already recognized/entitled by the UGC to offer a Two-Year Postgraduate Programme through ODL and/or Online mode may offer a One-Year PG Programme in the same discipline.
The programme must comply with NEP 2020, applicable UGC regulations, regulatory-body norms and the UGC's Curriculum and Credit Framework for Postgraduate Programmes.

Admission to the One-Year PG Programme will be restricted to learners who:
Have successfully completed a Four-Year Bachelor's Degree with Honours.
Meet the prescribed eligibility requirements for the respective PG programme.
Fulfil the required credit and academic requirements.
Satisfy any additional conditions prescribed by the relevant regulatory authorities.
🏫 Which Universities/Institutions Can Offer It?
The One-Year PG Programme through ODL/Online mode can be offered only by HEIs that are already recognized or entitled by UGC to offer the corresponding Two-Year PG Programme through ODL and/or Online mode.
The proposed One-Year PG programme must also receive approval from the institution's competent statutory bodies, such as:
Board of Studies (BoS)
Academic Council
Executive Council (EC) or equivalent body

For programmes such as MBA, MCA, PGDM, etc., the entry-level eligibility criteria will continue to be governed by the conditions prescribed by the respective Regulatory Bodies from time to time.
